China Summer Exchange

"One world. One dream." This is the theme of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In our Summer Exchange Program, cultural exchange and teamwork take place between American and Chinese students from the classroom to the community. Here they discover more common ground than differences between them and genuine friendships are forged.

For many Chinese American students, the program is the beginning of their personal journeys into the land and culture of their parents' heritage:

"I'm interested in Asia since it is a region I never really learned to appreciate until more recently as a young adult. I'd like to have a better understanding of my parents' culture and heritage."

"Getting a chance to talk and share with so many people from another culture was eye-opening and very enjoyable for me."

                                                                                Christle, UC Davis '04

"This summer gave me a passion and vision for life in China and confirmed my desire to work in  China."

"Chinese students learn about America...we learn about our roots, Chinese culture... It's funny how a couple of weeks overseas can completely change your perspective of the world.  Thousands of miles from home, people that you never knew existed...you now call 'friend'.  I never realized that I could miss people so much after such a short period of time."
